Acrylics
Please take a look at my gallery of Acrylics here
I first started playing around with acrylics paints having seen a very simple geometrical abstract that a friend had done a couple of years ago - he's not an artist and told me what fun it was and how easy acrylics are to use.
So I started to play around with them. I then began experimenting with different mediums, masking areas, building up textures to create 3D effects, adding beads, wire, gold leaf and then mixing sand to the paint itself etc.
Once I had completed 'oblivion' a friend asked me to do an abstract for her to a specific colour scheme and the result was 'cities in dust' (please see commissioned work for details).
Lyonesse followed, continuing the ruined architecture theme, but this time, under the ocean. Lyonesse is the UK's own version of 'atlantis' and is, as legend would have it, under the sea off the south coast of Cornwall.
Having created a few very abstract pieces, I then thought I'd try to combine the botanical theme with the 3D abstract effect that acrylics offer - 'dollydaff' was the result - more of the same to follow, the first being 'bird of paradise' - watch this space...
A couple of my photographs have also inspired paintings, the first being 'coffee cup'. Not only did the photograph recently win an online competition, but the acrylic painting of the same image sold for £250, so the next time my husband thinks I've finally gone crackers when I photograph a cup of coffee, I'll gently remind him.
Odney bridge, the photo just had to be painted and I finally finished this labour of love recently, a total change of style for me, a little out of my comfort zone and fears that it may look a bit 'chocolate box' for modern tastes. I was however pleased with the result.
My winter trees were somehow inspired after my father's death, but I really can't begin to expain why. However, their peaceful simplicity has proved popular at my recent exhibitions. These are also textured pieces with 3D snow.
